Clinical Evaluation of Atrican in Trichomonas Vaginalis Vaginitis

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Atrican, a derivative of thiazole, in 80 patients with trichomonadal vaginitis at Seoul National University Hospital during the period from February to June, 1978.
In all patients and their husbands, Atrican (0. 1 gm each) two tablets were taken 3 times a day for 3 days by mouth, and a vaginal tablet was inserted daily for 5 days in women. We used Roiron-Rattner medium and obtained the following result:
1. Cure rate: Post-treatment 1 wk: 90.2%
After 1st menstruation: 88.7%
After 2nd menstruation: 88.4%
2. Side effects were noticed in 11.3% of patients, and they wre mild degree. But in one patient, general edema was troublesome.
3. Toxicity of the drug was negligible.
4. Clinical symptoms and signs `were improved within post-treatment 1 wk in 90. 3%.
On the basis of above results, it was concluded that Atrican was effective regimen for the treatment of trichomonadal vaginitis.
